Private driver, VTC or taxi in Nice: what’s the difference?
In Nice and on the French Riviera, there are three ways to travel with a driver: a taxi, a VTC (the French term for a licensed private hire vehicle) and a private chauffeur at your disposal. They look similar, but they work differently, cost differently and offer different levels of service.
Taxi
A taxi can be hailed in the street or taken from a rank, for example outside the airport or station. The fare is metered under regulated rates and varies with distance, time of day and time spent in traffic.
VTC (private hire vehicle)
A VTC must be booked in advance – it cannot be hailed in the street. In return, the price is fixed before the journey, with no surprises if traffic is heavy. Vehicles are usually recent and premium, and your driver is there at the agreed time, tracks your flight and adapts to delays.
Private chauffeur at your disposal
For an event, a shopping day or a series of meetings, you can book a driver and vehicle for several hours or days. The driver stays at your disposal between trips – ideal for the Cannes Film Festival, the Monaco Grand Prix or a seminar. See our private driver for events service.
